KEEP LIFE IN PERSPECTIVE

Posted by Pastor John Lewis on

Thanksgiving is this coming Thursday and there’s a lot of stress around Thanksgiving and getting ready. Let’s put some things into perspective.

A few years ago, there was a young lady who went off to college as a freshman. She wrote a letter home to her mom and said, “Dear Mom, I really have broken my arm and my leg when I jumped out of the 2ndfloor of the dormitory because it caught on fire. Fortunately, the gas attendant saw the blaze and called the fire department.  They were there in minutes.  While I was in the hospital recovering, Paul, the gas station attendant, came to see me every day; he was so nice.  In fact, since the dormitory is taking so long to get repaired, I’ve decided to stay and move in with Paul in his apartment. I must admit, Mom, I’m pregnant, but Paul and I are going to get married just as soon as he can get a divorce. I promise I’ll write home more, just as soon as my hand heals. Love, Your daughter, Susie.  P.S. Mom, all of the above is not true, but I did flunk chemistry. I just want you to keep everything in perspective.”

That’s one of my favorite stories.  And so, after you’ve finished eating all the turkey that you can, come join me here, at The Presbyterian Church this Sunday at 9:30 or 10:45.  Hope to see you then.
