a christmas list

Posted by Pastor John Lewis on

Do you know what you want for Christmas? Have your children or family members told you what they want this year? Well, if you are still looking for that special something for that special someone, let me see if I can help. I went online and found a few things you might be interested in. I realize they might be a little pricey, but they are really nice! How about a wrist watch adorned with three heart-shaped diamonds, a 15-carat pink diamond, a 12-carat blue diamond and an 11-carat white diamond all for mere $16 million. If your loved one already has a watch, how about a nice sports car? The Bugatti Veyron 16.4 hits 60 mph in 2.5 seconds and reaches its top speed of 252 mph in just 55 seconds for a cool $1.2 million. If everyone in your family has a car, maybe a new home? This house is 570 feet high and is built in the middle of downtown Mumbai, India. There is a six level garage for 168 cars, a cinema, and each level is completely staffed with 600 servants. This can be all yours for $2 billion.

But let me ask all of us this. If Jesus had a Christmas list, what would be on it? Every year just about this time, you will see on the news houses that catch fire and people loose everything. A few years back in a small town, there was a home that burned to the ground. Some of the furniture was saved, but not much else. A neighbor drove up to look at the smoldering ruins and to poke around. Shaking his head as though in disbelief and clearing his throat, he told his long-time neighbor, “If there’s anything I can do, just let me know.” Then he drove off. Then a second neighbor came by, but instead of asking what he could do, he simply drove off. But in few hours, he returned. He returned with an old RV motor home that had been sitting in the driveway, beds, mattresses, sheets, pillowcases, potatoes, vegetables, cooking pots, clothes, and tools to clean up from the fire. So let me ask again, what do you think Jesus wants for Christmas this year?

Scripture: Matthew 25:45 “He will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.’"

Prayer: Lord, help me this Christmas to check off a few things on your Christmas list. Amen
