HANG IN THERE!

Posted by Pastor John Lewis on

Not long ago, there was a pastor in a small town – he used to go to a homeless shelter on Friday nights, to the meal center, and offer it to anyone who would like it after dinner. Oftentimes he would have 10 or 12 that would line up by the stage, and he’d go down the line and offer communion; the body of Christ, the cup of salvation. One Friday he had 10 or 12 line up, he walked down to one at a time and offered them communion.  Then he got to one homeless man, and the homeless man said, “Skip me, I’m not worthy.”  The pastor said, “Stay right here, I’ll be right back.”  He came back, and he said to the homeless man, “I’m gonna offer you communion and then you’re gonna offer communion back to me.”  So the pastor said, “The body of Christ, the cup of salvation,” and then he handed the cup and the bread to the homeless man.  The homeless man looked around as if the FBI was about to arrest him. He looked at the pastor and said, “Is this legal?” The pastor assured him that it was legal. He said, “Just say whatever is on your heart.” The homeless man said, “ The body of Christ, the cup of salvation,” and offered the cup and the bread to the pastor. And then he looked at the pastor and said, “Hang in there.” The pastor had never heard those words before in communion, but he thought, “that’s mighty appropriate.”

Maybe you are having one of those days and God is saying to you, “Hang in there, I’m with you.”
