Storms and Floods in the Midwest

Posted by Pastor John Lewis on

Here in the Midwest, we are in the season of flooding, thunderstorms, and even tornadoes. Back in 1999, in a small town in Oklahoma, a Baptist preacher moved there to take a church.  He and his wife unpacked their belongings all day in the parsonage, and then decided to shower and get ready for the next day. Suddenly the water heater stopped working. He called one of the deacons who invited him to come on over and spend the night, take a shower, and get ready for the next big day.  They did that, and as they were watching TV that evening,, there was a thunderstorm and tornado warning.

The storms came through, and afterwards they decided to go take a look at the parsonage, about 3 miles away, to make sure limbs weren’t on the roof or anything had been broken. When they arrived there, was nothing left but the foundation. Some people would ask, “Where was God when this happened?” or “Why didn’t God take care of this minister?”.  He would tell you God did take care of him by making the hot water heater not work that night.

There are going to come times in your life where there are going to be interruptions, inconvenience……and that might just be the invisible hand of God protecting you.
