The Tapestry of Your Life
Have you ever had things not go the way you wanted? Maybe your life has not turned out exactly the way you thought it would? Often times when life doesn’t go the way we want it to, I tell others what one of my professors shared with me. He said, “ A long time ago there was a pastor of a small church who had a wise old woman in his congregation. One day she invited him over for coffee. During their visit she invited him to take a look at one of her handmade tapestries. He said, I remember forcing a pleasant smile onto my face despite the fact that I thought the tapestry was really quit ugly! It was gray and black. There were loose strings hanging out, knots, discontinued trails, zig-zags of various colored string, and no discernable pattern of beauty. The only attractive thing was one small gold thread that ran through it. But then something amazing happened, she kindly turned the tapestry around. I had been looking at the backside of the tapestry the entire time! When she turned the tapestry over, I saw that the front side was incredible! The scene on the front was a beautiful green meadow with rolling hills and majestic mountains in the background. A beautiful brook with water ran down the hill side. And that golden thread that I saw on the backside, was a single ray of sun shine breaking through the storm clouds. The wise old woman said, that ….. life is…. full of loose strings, knots, discontinuities, interrupted patterns, and oftentimes with no discernable pattern to it. But God sees the front side of the tapestry of our lives. He is the Almighty God, who knows exactly what He’s doing, intricately putting together a beautiful piece of work in our lives by His providence. So for those of you who feel like life is not going the way it should, and for those of you who feel like your life has not turned out the way you wanted, hang in there. God is weaving the pain and disappointment into a perfect pattern.
One day, you will see the tapestry of your life, from the right side of heaven and everything will make sense. Let me say it again, “Hang in there!”

Scripture: Jeremiah 29:11
11 For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.
Prayer: Lord, help me to not get discouraged when life does not go the way I think it should go. Help me to remember that you are weaving everything together. Amen.
