Monopoly

Posted by Pastor John Lewis on

Millions of people live their lives as if this world is all there will ever be. They devote their entire lives to getting ahead in this world and accumulating all the toys that will make them feel comfortable. Years ago, Dr. James Dobson played the game MONOPOLY with his family. His teenagers thought it was a new game. He said, “I just smiled.” We gathered the family together and set up the board. It didn’t take long to figure out that Dad had played this game before. He said, “I soon owned all the best properties, including Boardwalk and Park Place.” My kids were squirming and I was loving every minute of it. About midnight I foreclosed on the last property and did a little victory dance. My family wasn’t impressed. They went to bed and made me put the game away. As I began putting all my money back in the box, an empty feeling came over me. Everything that I had accumulated was gone. The excitement over riches was just an illusion. And then it occurred to me, this is the game of life. You struggle to get ahead, but then one day the game ends. It all goes back in the box. You leave this world with nothing, just as you came into it…”

And yet there are some things that we can take with us. Feed someone who is hungry. Buy a coat for someone who is cold. For in so doing, you will store up treasures in heaven.

How will you spend the money God has blessed you with?

Scripture – Matthew 6:19 “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. 20 But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven." Prayer:  Lord, give me an opportunity to help someone in need today. Amen Pastor John (513)-867-5411   www.thepresby.org
