reflect the Lord

Posted on

Summer is over and it is time to get back to the fall schedule, including getting back to church.  Years ago on one crisp fall Sunday morning in Brunswick, Maine, a wonderful event took place. My dad was mistaken for God! Have you ever been mistaken for God?  In 1979, my dad was the chaplain at the naval air station in Brunswick, Maine.  He was the chaplain for the base chapel.  After chapel one September Sunday morning, he was walking from the chapel over to his office.  On the coast of Maine, the wind can be quite strong from time to time.  As he walked towards his office, a huge gust of wind engulfed  his black clerical robe and filled it out completely.  While this was going on, the sun suddenly came out from behind the clouds and caused his large silver cross around his neck to glisten brightly in the sun.  As he turned the corner, he walked past a little boy playing in the church yard.  The young boy looked up and squinted into the sunshine and,  never missing a beat, said, “Hi, God!”  My father simply smiled and said, “Good Morning!”

When others are with you, would they say they feel the presence of God?

Today, let me encourage you to do all you can to be the hands, feet and voice of God to those around you.

This Sunday we are starting our series, “Back to Basics.”  Come join us.  Back to church Sunday is September 21st.

Scripture: 2 Corinthians 3:18  But we Christians have no veil over our faces; we can be mirrors that brightly reflect the glory of the Lord. And as the Spirit of the Lord works within us, we become more and more like him.

Prayer: Lord, help others to sense your presence in my life. Amen
