The Road

Posted by Pastor John Lewis on

A few years ago during a Spring rain, a woman was  driving home one night. The weather was rather nasty. The rain was coming down very hard and it was very difficult to see. Seeing tail lights ahead of her she followed the car in front. Not being able to see, the car in front seemed to be going in the right direction. So she stuck with it. All of a sudden the car in front of her came to a stop. She began wonder what had happened, perhaps the car in front had hit a deer.  She began to feel uncomfortable, thinking  that being stopped in the middle of the road can often times lead to accidents. Much to her alarm the car in front of her turned off their lights. Her concern was now turning to anger. Why was this person stopping in the middle of the road and then turning off their lights. She was then startled by a knocking on her window. She looked up and there was a man standing in the pouring rain wanting to speak to her. She cracked the window open and asked the man what the problem was. The man replied by stating that, that was the question he was going to ask her. She retorted, that she was not the one who had stopped in the middle on the road and then turned off their lights. The man replied  that they were not in the road.  They were in his driveway.

Sometimes when we are on the road of life we can choose to follow the wrong leader. This woman decided to follow someone who was not taking her  to where she wanted to go. Maybe you are going through a difficult time in your life and it’s  hard to see the road you are on. At times like that,  we too  need to find a leader who can guide us. We need to make sure that we are on the right road. The road that will get us to where we want to go.  This coming week I want you to come with me to follow Jesus and the road he wants to lead you on.

Come join me April 3rd,  and walk through our city as we walk “The Way of the Cross”.

“WAY OF THE CROSS”     On April 3rd, at 12:00noon, we will gather in front of the Historic Courthouse on High Street to once again walk the “Stations of the Cross”. Please send this to your friends!

Last year we had clos to 500 people walk with us.  As we walk through the streets we will  be led by the sound of a drum beating a cadence, a large cross and two smaller crosses.

At each stop we will pause to sing a few verses of a song, join in prayer, and listen to reflections of what happened at that particular station.
The walk takes about an hour and twenty minutes. (12:00 noon to about 1:20)

Come walk with us!  Pass this on to others. Bring someone with you!
Scripture: Luke 23:32 Two other men, both criminals, were also led out with him to be executed. 33 When they came to the place called the Skull, they crucified him there, along with the criminals—one on his right, the other on his left.
